Into the Woods Reimagined

Kitchen | Lower Level | Whole Home | Addition | Exterior

This project represents a remarkable transformation of a modest forest home into a warm, functional, and highly personalized home that celebrates both family and nature. Guided by the homeowners’ desire for comfort, connection, and creativity, the design team reimagined nearly every aspect of the layout while honouring the original character of the home. One of the most impactful changes was converting the old deck into an interior living space, creating a sunroom that retains the forest views while also expanding the kitchen to enhance baking, hosting, and daily family life. Warm woods, dark accents, and glass railings create an inviting and balanced aesthetic throughout the main floor. The original pine tongue-and-groove ceilings were preserved, adding cabin-like warmth, while bold black beams draw the eye upward and Dekton Radium panels frame the new family fireplace. Nature-themed artwork painted by the homeowner reinforces the home’s organic inspiration. In the kitchen, walnut cabinetry is paired with a deep navy island and range hood, offering rich contrast and a sense of sophistication. Natural quartzite countertops and full-height backsplashes add earthy texture and visual continuity. On the exterior, a blend of richly stained Cayaki Yellowknife siding, Douglas-fir timber structures and accents, oiled hemlock soffits, and custom-blended stone facade and columns echoes the textures and tones of its surroundings. Within the lower level, what was once an open-concept sleeping area was restructured into private guest spaces, including a new bunkroom beneath the sunroom addition. A generous entertainment zone and games room complete the reimagined lower level. Natural materials, preserved wood ceilings, and curated wall space for the homeowner’s artwork reinforce the sense of personality and timelessness. This project is not only a beautiful architectural response to its environment, it’s a deeply intentional reinvention of space that now feels entirely and effortlessly like home.
