Previously, as you approached the front of this Bungalow you had to choose your own adventure: do you enter the Kitchen, Mudroom or Hallway? Similar to the entrances, the main living areas were divided into many rooms. The homeowner expressed a desire to have an accessible, open-concept home to be able to age in place but the tight walkways and multiple doorways concerned them. Specifically, the sunken living room floor had to be raised. We eliminated 2 of the 3 entrances and created one location to enter the new foyer of this home. The Kitchen patio door and Mudroom door (now transformed into the main floor laundry) were converted to windows to allow the natural light to fill the home. In the Kitchen, we created a half wall between the living room and kitchen to allow for valuable countertop space and to allow for conversations between the rooms but also to maintain some separation.
By updating the entrance to the backyard, the homeowner can also now enjoy the wildlife from the comfort of her living room. At the end of this remodelling project, the customer has a sense of relief knowing that they can enjoy their home for many years to come.
This project earned CCR an award win for “Best Renovation $200-350,000” from the @londonhba Awards of Creative Excellence!
